John Hattie is Professor of Education at Auckland Universityand director of the Visible Learning Lab. His areas of interest are measurement models and their applications to educational problems, including item response models, structural equation modelling, measurement theory, and meta-analysis. John is chief moderator of the Performance Based Research Fund, editor of the International Journal of Testing, associate editor of British Journal of Educational Psychology, and is part-time cricket coach and umpire. He has published and presented over 450 papers, and supervised 150 theses students.   Keynote - Thursday

Lauren Porter, BA, MSW
Lauren Porter is the Co-Director of the Centre for Attachment and is a therapist, trainer and consultant working with parents and professionals in New Zealand, Australia and beyond. Since obtaining her Masters Degree in Social Work from New York University, USA in 1995 she has been dedicated to working with families, children and adolescents in the field of mental health counselling and training.

"It is more productive to focus on what is working the try and fix what is broken."

Rema is a Leadership and Management Adviser with UC Education Plus and has a particular interest in providing 1-1 support for people working in the education sector. She has a belief structure based on Solution Focus and the Strengths Approach. The Strengths Approach is a way of thinking that focuses on what is working in order to strengthen what may not be working. The keynote will offer two examples of how this belief structure works in the education setting.
